Fire Emblem Fates is a tactical role playing game released with multiple versions depicting different "paths" and outcomes to one central story, each titled Birthright (known in Japan as White Kingdom), which takes the main character on the side of the peace-loving Hoshido kingdom and their blood family, Conquest (known in Japan as Black Kingdom), which aligns the main character with the conquering Nohr kingdom and their foster family, and Revelation (known in Japan as Invisible Kingdom), which pits both armies against the main character in the attempt to bring both kingdoms together to defeat a greater threat. All three versions focus on tactical movement on a grid-style map to defeat enemy units and/or map goals, and each boasts a grand cast of characters, each version having specifically soldiers from their aligning kingdom (with the exception of Revelation, which takes a roster from both sides and almost doubles the former games). The game features online support for playing versus friends and random match-up, as well as DLC (downloadable content) to expand the game's content and obtain new items and characters not openly available in normal play.
